Oshkosh Corporation and Daimler Trucks North America, Acting Through Its Affiliate, Detroit Diesel Corporation, Reach Agreement For Supply of 2010 EPA Engines

January 6, 2009 Oshkosh, WI — Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) and Detroit Diesel Corporation, a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America, LLC, have developed a strategic relationship to supply engines to the Oshkosh Corporation Fire & Emergency businesses. Detroit Diesel, a leading engine manufacturer, will provide the 2010 EPA emissions standards compliant Detroit DD13 diesel engine to Pierce Manufacturing, North America’s largest manufacturer of fire and rescue apparatus. The DD13 is an advanced design that offers seamless integration of Detroit Diesel’s BlueTec® selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology that according to the company’s test data does not compromise power, fuel economy or performance.

 

Detroit Diesel is working with Daimler Trucks N. A. that has been building and operating more than 100,000 SCR heavy-duty diesel trucks in Europe and around the world.

The Detroit diesel engine, DD13 is a smart, fuel efficient designed engine that has demonstrated up to five percent better fuel economy, while delivering improved serviceability, power and torque on demand.

SCR is a proven emissions-reduction technology with the ability to deliver near-zero emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a smog-causing pollutant and greenhouse gas. The technology works by injecting diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), a simple solution of water and urea, into the exhaust. DEF works with the heat of the exhaust and a catalyst to convert NOx into nitrogen and water vapor – two harmless and natural components of air. Utilizing SCR to reduce emissions allows the engine to produce efficient power and torque.
