TAK-4®

Suspension technology that changed everything.

Pierce is the only custom fire truck manufacturer in North America to offer a proprietary independent front suspension.

The Benefits

  • Shortens stopping distance by up to 23%,
  • Improves ride quality by 340%
  • Improves handling, enhances vehicle control,
  • Increases load-carrying capacity
  • Improves durability, and simplifies maintenance.

 TAK-4

THE SAFETY

The original TAK-4 IFS systems were designed and built by Oshkosh Truck for the U.S. military and the harsh terrain their trucks need to tackle. It was put through 80,000 actual durability test miles, most of them in extreme off-road conditions.  Read more about how the TAK-4 protects your crew on our safety page >>

TAK-4 Diagram

Ride smoother

The TAK-4 IFS system is custom built for Pierce chassis to give you better road feel, control and a smoother ride over any kind of surface. It accomplishes this through a mechanical-over-hydraulic steering system with two steering gears that provide power to the steering linkage.

Ride stronger

A torsion bar set-up, a much beefier version of what is found on many SUVs, also helps deliver superior control. Cast steel alloy and ductile iron upper and lower control arms allow the front wheels to take on potholes one at a time. And the lower spring rates made possible by the independent front suspension smooth out the road better than any straight axle rig.

Command Zone
Digital apparatus information.

Proven in the auto industry, multiplexing is a simple method of integrating a computerized electrical system into your fire apparatus. It allows multiple electrical signals to be processed simultaneously through a 3-wire datalink cable rather than the typical wire harness that utilizes 50 or more individual wires.

  • Improved vehicle reliability.
  • Fewer wires & electrical connections.
  • Overall servicing is easier.
  • Vehicle-specific I/O (input & output) sheets make troubleshooting easier.
  • Allows electronic systems, including the engine and transmission, to share vital information.
  • Load management and sequential switching standard on Command Zone vehicles.
  • Hardware components are interchangeable.
  • Pierce technicians can troubleshoot your vehicle in the field, via modem.
  • Solid-state electronics reduce the need to replace relay fuses or circuit breaker.

Roll-Up Hosebed Cover

Get ready for easier hose loading.

Traditionally, hosebed covers are in the way and don't adequately protect the hosebed. They often add height to the truck and make on-scene situations cumbersome. Not anymore. The Pierce Roll-Up Hosebed Cover rolls forward, out of the way of the hosebed, for easier hose loading at the top of the truck. The solid cover protects the hose from all elements, and also provides an NFPA-compliant walking surface above the hose. The roll-up hosebed cover does not add to overall height as most aluminum covers do when opened.
