2010 Diesel Engines - Near Zero Emissions

You can be ready, with an apparatus friendly solution that combines efficiency with environmental and public health benefits.

  • Pierce provides engines that meet and exceed 2010 EPA emissions standard.
  • In 2010, the pollutants emitted by 65 trucks is equivalent to the pollutants emitted by just 1 truck in 1988.

APU

OTHER FEATURES

  • Reduces service intervals over life time of apparatus
  • APU takes over all electrical loads of vehicle, including an auxiliary cab climate control system if desired

Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) - Idle Reduction Technology

Fuel Consumption Reduction

The APU uses less fuel compared to the chassis engine.  This saves fuel costs and extends the chassis engine service intervals.

Idle Time Reduction

In conjunction with an automatic diesel engine control, the auxiliary power unit shuts down the main diesel chassis engine allowing the APU to take over the electricity load demand.  This process is automated and does not require the intervention from the vehicle operator.

Available to use when:

  • Chassis air brake is set
  • Transmission is in neutral
  • Pump assembly is not engaged
  • No power take-off activity

Commercial Hybrid

Electric Hybrid Power

  • Integral transmission mounted motor/generator

  • 340-volt battery pack

Dedicated Power Management System

In slower, stop-and-go traffic, the system acts as an electric motor utilizing power from the battery pack.

  • In steady driving conditions above 30 mph, all power comes from the diesel engine.

Facilities

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY

Pierce has implemented numerous projects aimed at saving energy. The total cumulative savings is nearly 36 million kilowatt hours (kWh) and over 825,000 therms (qty of heat).

Equal to 478 homes

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT?

The total energy savings of these projects equals an estimated annual savings of 7 million kWh and 170,000 therms. This is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of 1,100 vehicles annually or the total energy used in 475 homes in one year.

Below are just a few ways Pierce has been able to accomplish this task:

Equal to 1105 cars
