Vicki is the customer coordinator firefighters dream of. Not only does she have decades of experience working at Pierce, she’s spent 20 years as a firefighter for the Manawa Fire Department. She understands the apparatus and she gets the perspective of the firefighter. Putting the two together is how she makes the magic happen.
But a profound understanding of firefighter needs isn’t the only magic Vicki’s experienced in her time with Pierce. She met her husband of 25 years on her very first shift. He was a welder. She was a mechanic. And when the two were brought together under the same department years later, it didn’t take long for “How do you do” to turn into “I do.”
Aside from finding love, Vicki has found family at Pierce. She can’t help but be moved when she thinks back to her first night at work, when Doug Ogilvie made a special trip (during second shift, right around 10 o’clock) to introduce himself. It’s a memory that is made even more meaningful when she reflects upon the scholarship he provided to help her daughter go to college – the first member of Vicki’s family to do so.
She’ll tell you about how supportive the team was when her best friend at Pierce was diagnosed with cancer. And about how the company helps its employees and the community through a lot of hard times – not because it looks good, but because it’s the right thing to do.
"She’s grateful. Humbled. Heartfelt. And proud to be called “Warden” – the caretaker of Pierce.
