Commercial Emergency Equipment

Commercial Emergency Equipment proudly represents Pierce Manufacturing from Ontario to British Columbia, including all Canadian Territories. Rooted in a legacy stretching back to 1947, Commercial brings decades of truck equipment expertise, a national service footprint and a customer-first philosophy to each fire department it serves.

From its network of 13 branches across Canada, Commercial combines seasoned sales professionals, deep aftermarket support and a simple guiding principle: We are here to help you buy a fire truck, not to sell you one.

“We’ve had a long-term relationship with commercial, and we’re extremely happy with their service. Knowing that our fleet is in great shape helps our firefighters, reduces organizational stress, which has our firefighters healthy and safe. I would recommend Commercial to any and every fire department looking for a trusted, reliable partner in the purchase and maintenance of a fire apparatus." - Tim Wilkinson - Former Fire Chief, Richmond Fire Rescue

A Legacy Built Long Before the First Pumper

Commercial Body Builders Ltd. was founded in Vancouver in 1947, fabricating truck bodies and supplying equipment to telecom, hydro, mining, forestry and construction industries. For more than six decades, the company has built its reputation on quality fabrication, responsive service and long-term customer relationships.

In 2011, Pierce approached Commercial to serve as its authorized warranty and service provider for Western Canada; a role Commercial embraced with the same discipline and care applied to each part of its business. Six years later, in 2017, the partnership evolved into a full Pierce dealership. Commercial's first delivery left little doubt about the scale of ambition ahead: a Pierce Enforcer 110' Ascendant aerial platform to Taber, Alberta.

Growth Defined by Relationships

  • In 2018, Commercial secured its first major municipal fleet contract: a six-year agreement with the City of Mississauga for 24 fire apparatus. It established Commercial as a credible long-term partner for large urban departments.

  • Commercial secured several unlimited-quantity contracts with the Calgary Fire Department. In fact, the combined Calgary contracts represent approximately $78 million CAD in orders to date, and when complete, Calgary will be the largest all-Pierce fleet in North America.
  • On December 6, 2024, Commercial sold its 500th fire apparatus as a dealership. Weeks earlier, it had crossed another threshold, surpassing 100 apparatus sales in a single fiscal year for the first time.

“Deciding on a partner for our full-fleet engine replacement was not something we took lightly. Following a rigorous, competitive procurement process, Pierce and Commercial were the clear choice to rely on for our pumpers and rescues." - Nigel Thorley, leader of Fleet and Equipment for the Calgary Fire Department

A National Service Network Built for the Long Haul

From a single Vancouver location in 1947, Commercial Truck Equipment now has 13 locations across Canada, employing over 350 staff and offering more than 120 product lines. Its market reach evolved from British Columbia-focused truck bodies to national leadership in truck, utility, emergency and towing equipment.

  • A 37,000-square-foot branch in Calgary, Alberta

  • A 50,000-square-foot flagship facility in Edmonton, Alberta

  • Nearly 40,000 square feet of space in Woodstock, Ontario

  • A recent 16-bay expansion in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Each service location is designed to support the full lifecycle of a department's apparatus, from specification and delivery through service, parts and pump testing.

Additionally, Commercial continues growing its mobile service capabilities, adding pump test trailers and mobile service vehicles to reduce downtime in communities far from a fixed facility. Nationwide bricks-and-mortar service centers, combined with professional parts and service teams, ensure each department Commercial works with has a reliable, long-term partner.

"Pierce and Commercial Emergency Equipment’s dedication to quality, as well as the proximity of service resources for our fire department has proven to be a good match." - Nigel Thorley, leader of Fleet and Equipment for the Calgary Fire Department

Community and the Fire Service

A pink fire truck is parked in a lot in front of a waving Canadian flag.Commercial's investment in the fire service extends well beyond apparatus. The dealership is a committed supporter of Fire Chiefs Associations across Canada and participates in charitable initiatives, including the Pink Truck Tour, burn camp donations and local community giving programs.

Commercial’s staff are also highly invested in, and knowledgeable about the fire service. Every single one of Commercial's Apparatus Specialists and Sales Managers are either active or retired front-line firefighters themselves. The connection to the fire service isn't incidental. It shapes how Commercial approaches each customer relationships, apparatus specifications, contract negotiations and service calls.
