AndersonCounty_BannerThe Anderson County Fire Department's new Pierce fire apparatus will offer operational efficiency and enhanced safety for the rapidly growing South Carolina county.

APPLETON, Wis. (June 13, 2023)Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, announced today the Anderson County Fire Department in South Carolina has placed an order for 19 custom fire apparatus, including 18 Pierce Saber® pumpers and one Enforcer™ 100’ Heavy-Duty Aerial Platform. This significant order marks the largest fleet purchase in the county’s history and is the latest representation of the department’s commitment to providing quality resources to support its emergency personnel. 

Authorized Pierce dealer Spartan Fire and Emergency Apparatus facilitated the new fire apparatus order. Anderson County Fire Department’s decision was influenced by the increasing growth and development of their coverage area, the diverse response needs of their community, and dedication to the safety and efficiency of their firefighters.

“We've been working with Spartan Fire and Emergency Apparatus and Pierce for many years," stated Jimmy Sutherland, Fire Chief of Anderson County Fire Department. "The quality, reliability, and support we've experienced have led us to trust them with this unprecedented fleet upgrade, which allows for the replacement of fire apparatus nearing 30 years old. We are confident in the quality of Pierce fire apparatus, and the custom features will significantly improve our response capabilities and the safety of our firefighters."

The 18 Saber side-mount pumpers are equipped with Cummins L9 380 HP engines,1250 gpm pumps, 1000-gallon water tanks, and low hosebeds. The 100’ Heavy-Duty Aerial Platform includes a PACCAR MX-13 510 hp engine, a Waterous 2000 gpm pump, a 300-gallon water tank, TAK-4® Independent Suspension, side-roll protection system, and frontal airbags.

Chief Sutherland added, “Anderson County has experienced significant growth, and this has increased our call volume and the types of incidents we respond to daily. This apparatus purchase will significantly update our fleet and enhance our response capabilities to transport personnel and equipment. Safety is our priority, and we're confident these new vehicles will provide more protection for our firefighters when responding to emergencies."

The Anderson County Fire Department serves a population of over 200,000 citizens and operates out of 31 stations with 900 volunteer firefighters. The large county is in upstate South Carolina with a coverage area including rapidly growing residential, commercial, and industrial areas along the Interstate 85 corridor.
